Open Source Your Mind

More inspirations from Reinventing Erica‘s What’s Your Agenda? blog entry.

I also have a “Rule” that says: “Knowledge should be shared.” This is the rule that allows me to meet with great minds, and share amazing ideas without worrying about signing NDA’s, or losing my idea to someone else. Could someone steal “my idea”? Sure. But, I think it’s worth the risk. I’ve Open Sourced My Mind.

I couldn’t agree more. It is something that has bothered me for some time. I enjoy teaching and spreading knowledge, but frequently get the advice to shut up and keep my ideas to myself, or else others will take my ideas and get rich instead of me.

I do have a lot of ideas. In many ways, I am an idea man. I come up with ideas on how to make the world a better place. And I want to share those ideas. And even more so, I want to build teams to help create some of my ideas.

Sometimes I have an internal dilemma on whether I should share or keep my mouth shut. Especially if I am not in a position to implement my ideas but perhaps the other person is. Will they steal my idea? Can I trust them? Will they work with me?

Most of the time I share my ideas and sometimes I don’t.

Erica has made me think of open-sourcing my mind. What does that mean exactly? I already share my ideas. But not always. Something I shall have to think about. :)
